Red Planet Have you ever heard of Mars? Did you know there is another name for Mars, the Red planet. Some people say Mars is just like Earth; it has valleys, mountains, weather, and volcanoes. There is a rover on Mars right now while you are reading this! The diameter of Mars is 6,779 kilometers (KM).  The Appearance What is the colour of Mars? The colour of Mars is reddish brownish. The reason why is because its rocks and dust is made out of iron oxide. Iron oxide is also known as the same rust as car rust. That's the reason why Mars is reddish brownish. Moons  While Earth has only one moon planet Mars has two moons. The names of Mars moons are Deimos and Phobos. Deimos is not a sphere like Earths. Deimos has quite a lot of craters. Deimos is a natural satellite. It looks shiny. Phobos is not a sphere like Earth's moon either; it's like a bumpy craters. Year and days On Earth a day is 24 Hours long and a year is 365 days. On the planet Mars a day is 24 hours and 39 minutes long. It's like Earth day. But almost the same day on Earth but it's 39 minutes longer. A year on Mars is 687 Earth days. 322 days longer than Earth's year.
